Raised installation

An extremely easy system to inspect that allows for the installation of a system of irrigation, pipes, cables and lighting below the floor. Slabs are repositionable to facilitate maintenance of the underlying items.

FIXED SUPPORT

Minimum height from slab: 12 mm. A 3 mm thick levelling disk is available to increase the thickness of one or more areas of the support. The base is perforated at the centre to improve adaptation to the laying surface. The supports can be easily broken into four parts according to the laying scheme and are provided with spacers to create joints between the tiles.

The self-levelling support can compensate for gradients of up to 5%. To lay near corners or walls, break two or four of the support spacers. Near sharp edges, distance the supports from the wall.

Warning Novoceram recommends the use of clamps with an height of up to 10 cm. If a higher cant is required, Novoceram recommends gluing at the bottom of the slab a fiber glass mesh or a galvanised steel, with the aim of preventing the shear failure in the floor in case of slab breakage. Moreover, Novoceram recommends applying a central foot under each slab, so as to uniformly distribute stresses due to loads of various nature and trampling.

Screw

Proper drainage is a key aspect in any architectural project. You must therefore take into account some aspects in advance to avoid water stagnation and related issues that may negatively affect the structure.
Novoceram Outdoor Plus offers all the advantages of top quality porcelain tiles: it is frost-proof and does not absorb water.
In order to avoid problems related to water stagnation and to achieve optimal drainage of the flooring, it is advisable to adopt certain measures in the design phase:
1.Prepare the appropriate transverse or longitudinal gradients (1.5% – 2%) to be created during the levelling phase or during compacting.
2. Add an additional layer made of special draining materials. Novoceram Outdoor Plus ensures the advantages so typical of porcelain tiles: they are frost resistant and have a water absorption of practically zero. This can, irrespective of the installation method, result in standing water collecting on the extremity of the slabs. We recommend joints of at least 5mm.
In the case of terraced roofs located above inhabited areas or similar, it is always necessary to provide a complete system of layers for the realization of a flat roof with the correct slope, in accordance with current building rules and regulations.

Warning

If the application of the 20 mm slabs foresees the ceramic product used in structural installations, the project engineer and/or customer must carefully assess the project requirements with regard to the technical specifications of the slabs. To prevent the risk of damage or injury, the manufacturer recommends:

With regard to a raised floor installation a ceramic slab may fracture on impact if a heavy object falls on it from any significant height. Therefore the manufacturer recommends to check the specific intended use before starting the installation and to follow table for raised installation provided below. In certain conditions, reinforcing must be applied on the back of the slabs (galvanized steel sheet) supplied and applied by the manufacturer.

With reference to any dry installation system of flooring above the ground level, the manufacturer recommends to comply with local regulations and conditions of use with regard to wind-load, loadbearing, seismic events, etc.
Failure to comply with these recommendations may lead to improper use of the product and could cause serious damage or injury.

Drainage

In order to achieve a dreinage of the floor plan, it is necessary to create the adequate cross and longitudinal inclinations. Even putting aside the distinctive advantages of using porcelain stoneware, we remind you that Novoceram Outdoor Plus has awater absorption rate that is almost zero, and this characteristic maket it frost proof. This can lead to water deposit in certain specific areas, in particular on the edge of the slab, irrespective of a state-of-the-art installation of the material. Novoceram recommend to allow for at least 5mm grout.
